Noir is a stunning find from a subtribe of the Beni Ourain people. It is known as a Marmoucha. This one is so soft and in excellent condition. I love the triangle border and beautiful edge details! He has a palette of cream with black, in a timeless diamond design. It is beautifully made and coming in at 7x12, the size is unusually wide, which is also a nice feature!

Beni Ourain rugs are known for their dense pile and reversible design. You'll see from the pictures, the back is also beautiful. This rug was woven in the Middle Atlas mountain region in Morocco, where temperatures can change drastically. These pieces are significant to Berber culture as the higher pile kept members of the family warm. Traditionally these rugs were not used purely for decorative purposes, but more commonly as blankets or to sleep on!

Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take up to weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors in each rug vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.

COLORS/MATERIALS:  warm cream with black. Hand knotted wool.  **please note: this rug is NOT stark white, but more of a creamy background :)
