Beni Ourain rugs are known mostly for their neutral colors, shaggy dense pile, and diamond pattern. I named this one "Intertwined" because of the cross over pattern of this rug- it's truly unlike any other I've seen!

This rug actually was created by a sub-tribe of the Beni Ourain, Marmoucha. Marmoucha rugs are some of my favorite because of the intricate detail in their designs. This one doesn't disappoint!

This rug was woven in the Middle Atlas mountain region in Morocco, where temperatures can change drastically. These pieces are significant to Berber culture as the higher pile kept members of the family warm. Traditionally these rugs were not used purely for decorative purposes, but more commonly as blankets or to sleep on!

Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take up to weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors in each rug vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.
