Majesty
THIS RUG'S STORY:
This vintage Zayane rug has almost a royal feel to it - soft wool, rich warm plum color, and soft wool pile. I love that the pattern is repetitive and a tad more traditional so that it could fit into many different styles of homes! The Zayane tribe are neighbors to the Beni M'Guild tribe, and so the thicker plusher and more dense pile can be found in this one too. Often these rugs were created not only as family heirlooms, but also for functional reasons, as blankets to keep warm in the cold winter months in the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Majesty is a very rare rug for a couple reasons. First being because of its size. Almost everytime you come across a Zayane rug, it will be very large. This one is small/medium size which would make it great as an accent in a small seating area or an Entry. The pattern is very unique for this tribe too. I hand selected this work of art while in Morocco in the Fall 2018.
ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS:
Each vintage Moroccan rug is hand woven and knotted by Berber women of the tribal region specified. This level of craftsmanship can take weeks or months to complete a single rug. Weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. The patterns, designs, and colors in each rug vary with each rug, weaver, and tribe – so each piece is truly a unique work of art and 2 pieces will never be the same. Often these rugs have been handed down through the families who created them, and have been uncovered from the mountain and rural areas of Morocco.
